You’re scrolling through TikTok one night, eyes glazed but unyielding and just going to sleep, when something catches your eye. It looks like a Polaris RZRbut it doesn’t rip through the sand dunes of Baja – it’s on country. Rubbing your eyes doesn’t clear up confusion, because you got it right the first time. This is not an RZR at all, but a prototype for Shadow Six Typhoon.
While it may look like a side-by-side being placed gently atop two individual watercraft by forklift, the Typhoon’s structure has much more depth. It uses two turbocharged Yamaha PWC engines and a set of aftermarket Polaris RZR plastic exhaust pipes, but the company claims the rest of the build is completely custom – from the bottom of the hull to the top of the frame.
The core idea for the storm, according to creator Ryan Goldberglike this: PWC is easy going, but the whole “outdoors” part is one slogan. You have to deal with sunshine and salt water, and who wants those in their lives? What if you could ride a PWC, but have a roof and long-travel suspension to keep you insulated from the sky and waves? Definitely better, right?
So Goldberg got to work, designing and building a custom frame that combined two PWC hulls with the popular offroad type of suspension on either side. While it’s fitted with aftermarket Polaris RZR shock absorbers, the frame beneath them is a fully-custom work in titanium. Much of the rest of the structure is carbon fiber, keeping the Typhoon light. And, did I mention the two Yamaha engines come together six hundred horsepower?
Interesting, while PWC hull at the bottom clearly not suitable for original patent image As for the storm, they don’t seem to be suitable either Skateboard Yamaha GP1800R SVHO from which the project powers its powertrains. While it is possible that this early prototype is using a different, less expensive PWC hull as a base, the company maintains that These hulls are handmade especially for hurricanes.
Dave Bamdas of Riva Motorsports, the exclusive dealer for Typhoon, claims that Production will begin with the 2023 model year. Pricing is yet to be announced on the Shadow Six website, but Goldberg has stated that it will sit right around a quarter of a million dollars. Whether it arrives at that time (or sometime), and the final price, remains to be seen.
