Paradise Killer Launches on PS4 & PS5 March 16 – PlayStation.Blog

I wouldn’t be here to write this blog if I didn’t have an original PlayStation growing up. I only liked games before I bought one but titles like Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid changed my life and set me on a career path in the video game industry. So I’m excited to be able to announce that we’re releasing Paradise Killer on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 this month – March 16th to be exact!

Paradise Killer is an open-world murder mystery set on a strange island ruled by a secret society that worships goat-headed alien gods. Monolithic crystal statues rise from the ocean and look down on an island full of secrets, ghosts, and shrines dedicated to unspeakable cosmic beings.

We knew it was going to look amazing on PS5 – with our glittering black marble, golden temples and towering crystal statues just screaming to be covered in ray tracing. luminous. It also feels very enjoyable and surprising every time I start the game and the PS5’s SSD loads the whole world stupidly quickly. Besides looking super cool and flying at 60fps, the DualSense wireless controller’s haptic feedback adds immersive touch to things like climbing ladders, turning on your torches, and buying drinks from the vending machine (my personal favorite extra). I’m not sure what the haptic feedback would add to the Paradise Killer but now that friends I can tell you it adds so many, so much. So on PS5, you’re looking at 4k, 60fps with ray tracing. The PS4 Pro version is 4k at 60fps and the PS4 version targets 60fps at 1080p.

We were already working hard on our next game when we got the chance to work on the PlayStation version of Paradise Killer, so we needed some help. We were lucky enough to work with our friend Harry on the port and couldn’t be happier. We want to handle the portals of Paradise Killer ourselves, but we don’t have the resources available. Luckily, Harry was recommended by our art director Rachel and thankfully was able to join us on the project, handling the porting and implementation of PlayStation 5-only features like haptics.

It’s scary leaving something so personal for someone else to do, but Harry did a fantastic job working with our technical director Phil to bring the game to PlayStation. Rachel has now joined full-time as art director and helped us balance out new lighting to improve the game while keeping the original style intact. Rachel worked on areas of the game’s original version, and the PlayStation release gave her the opportunity to revisit her work, balancing new lighting that still aligns with the original’s style.

“When we heard that we had the opportunity to bring Paradise Killer to PlayStation, we were really excited about the potential for some of the visual enhancements we could add to the game. Now that it’s all in place, we can’t wait to show you the new and improved Paradise Island. However, we’ve been careful not to lose sight of the visual appeal of Paradise Killer, which is still the nostalgic Paradise Island players know and love, but with some tweaks to the visuals. to polish it and create a new, better version of it. My favorite change is the new and improved beam and light tracking system, it really makes the sunset island view a little bit more alive! ”

We use Unreal 4 to bring Paradise to life – with the move to PlayStation we’ve made great use of all the latest technology on offer, plus some custom additions to make sure Shine display at best frame rate. We’ve also removed a few things – like loading screens. If anything, the world loads also quick now. What if I miss loading screen tips?

We certainly don’t want to release Paradise Killer with just technical improvements, though. We were blown away by the reaction to the game and wanted to add some fun stuff in. I want to get a little confusing here because I want to surprise the players but there’s new music, new skins for your investigative assistant Starlight, new collectibles, a new side quest giver a new one. ghost [REDACTED] and a bunch of fake AIs trapped in broken vending machines. These creepy internet bastards are the key to unlocking new tracks by Barry “Epoch” Topping. They are well hidden but extremely worth hunting down.

We’re excited to release the PS4 and PS5 versions of Paradise Killer. When we quit our job to make this unique game, we thought we wouldn’t find an audience but we were wrong. We can now introduce all of our beautiful freak kids like Lady Love Dies, Sam Day Break and Shinji to a whole new set of players. We hope PlayStation owners enjoy life back in Paradise!
