PacificSource Health Plans has selected Dr John Espinola as its next president and chief executive officer, the nonprofit announced Wednesday.
Espinola will join PacificSource on April 3, succeeding Ken Provencher, who is retiring.
Espinola will leave Premera Blue Cross, where he served as executive vice president, chief strategy and product officer, and CEO of Kinwell Physician Network. Previously, he was the national medical director of Essence Healthcare and the chief operating officer and chief medical officer of Evercare, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group.
Provencher is leaving on March 31 after nearly 30 years, of which more than 20 are chief executives. During his tenure, membership grew from 200,000 to 600,000 policyholders in Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington, according to a June newsletter announcing his departure.
