The Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners are very pleased to announce that the 2023 OTBO Mixed Sale will be held this year at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course. The time and date are the same as the previous year, Oct. 18 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
The decision was made with the idea of making things much easier for potential buyers to attend the auction. The horses will be in the receiving barn, making it easy and convenient for the consignors to get their horses back and forth.
OTBO also plans on having online bidding available for those who cannot attend. Check the OTBO website for details on how to register; information will also be listed in the catalog.
All horses that go through this sale, even in utero, will be eligible for the $50,000 OTBO Grad Race for 3-year-olds in the year of the race that is held annually at Mahoning as well.
Mahoning will be opening the concessions on the lower grandstand prior to the auction to provide food and beverages.
The list of horses in the sale will be released shortly. Approximately 50 horses have been entered with a great selection of weanlings, yearlings, 2-year-olds, and broodmares—most in foal to accredited stallions.
OTBO plans to add a supplement of horses of racing age to the catalog this year, in hope this gives all horsepeople an additional opportunity to add to their racing stables. Sellers should contact the OTBO if any additional information on this opportunity is needed. We will be walking the shed rows to gauge interest in the coming weeks.
The catalog will be mailed out the first week of October and will be on our website at OTBO.com, as well as distributed to all of our racetracks.
