Ortiz manager takes aim at Avanesyan, Warren says fighting doesn’t stop
A proposed fight between Vergil Ortiz Jr and David Avanesyan in danger of disintegrating.
Last month, it was revealed that the two heavyweights will collide on August 6 in Texas but Ortiz’s manager, Rick Mirigan, accused the European welterweight champion of “running away”.
In a lengthy post on social media, Mirigan said that the Russian “signed the contract for two weeks and the team said it was signed, told the promoters that it was signed and it was signed.” will go then will not send back”.
He then added that on Monday morning (July 6), Avanesyan’s side will run out of time to have a chance to secure a showdown with the undefeated star.
“Golden Boy (Ortiz promoter) did everything they wanted, accommodated every crazy need they asked for, and Vergil even spent some money to help make the fight.
“They agreed to the deal and then would never send the actual contract back and start playing the game after that. You want to fight and you’ve got it, so sign and mail it to or follow a belt they sell at WalMart! ”
That post is from three days ago. Monday’s deadline has also passed and nothing else has been said since. However, Boxing Social reached out to Avanesyan promoter Frank Warren, and we asked if the fight was over.
“Not at the moment,” he replied. “We’re doing it.”
Following Mirigan’s post, Michael McKinson’s manager Lee Eaton said his men were ready to take on Ortiz. The British weight then added, “Sending the same contract as before? No problem.”
Ortiz and McKinson were scheduled to face each other in March but the duel was extended into the fighting week when the Americans hospitalize was diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis.
