Orders for Cadillac Lyriq to open in May, Celestiq to launch next year

During a press conference with the media, Cadillac The executives provided a rough outline of the short-term product and business plan. The most interesting tidbits around the brand Electric Carthe 2023 Cadillac Lyriq and Celestiq laterand its advanced driver assistance systems, Super yacht and Ultra Cruise coming soon.

We’ll start with Lyriq and Celestiq. The Lyriq finally goes into production next week and it will be available to order on May 19 in both rear- and all-wheel drive versions. It’s not just a reservation system, it’s an actual order book, so there’s no extra wait to convert one’s reservation into a final order. Cadillac is expecting pretty strong interest. The brand is targeting around 200,000 hand breeders for the Lyriqs (who said they would be interested in Lyriq, but didn’t pay any to hold the order) and they’ve managed to get around 233,000. About 10% of manual-car buyers end up placing an actual order, executives say, so Cadillac could hit more than 20,000 orders. To do that, last year’s Cadillac’s best-selling car, Escaladesold about 40,000 units, ranked second XT5 sold 28,000 and ranked third XT6 sold about 20,000.

Cadillac executives also spoke briefly about the Celestiq. The Celestiq is the upcoming flagship electric sedan we’ve only seen so far. According to executives, it will finally enter production next year. As such, we’ll see it revealed sometime between then and now, though no one is willing to say exactly when.

Which brings us to other news about Cadillac, about Ultra yacht and Super Cruises. Ultra Cruise will debut on Celestiq. However, the executives said it has yet to be determined whether it will be available at launch or a little later. It’s still too early to say for sure, as things may change with development and availability. As a reminder, the Ultra Cruise will be an advanced steering assist just like the Super Cruise, but instead of just working on the highway, it will be able to handle city driving.

With Super Cruise, the news is new features include Automatic lane change and towing ability will be available as an over-the-air update for existing Super Cruise vehicles. It will only be available as an update for 2021 Cadillac models, namely CT4, CT5 and Escalade. No wonder only Escalade has it sled function.

A bit concerning is the confirmation that Ultra Cruise will Not available as an update to existing Super Cruise vehicles. Cadillac executives note that the systems require different hardware.
