Organizers are calling on employers in Australia’s Thoroughbred industry to use the holiday season to recognize the industry’s huge workforce – who stay active 365 days a year – by nominating candidates Winner of the Stabilization and Agriculture Employee Award 2023.

Tom Reilly, chief executive officer of Thoroughbred Breeders Australia believes the Livestock and Stability Officer Awards are a great way to recognize employees who stand up every day to ensure the smooth running of the industry.

“The nomination process has been designed to be very simple and we are opening nominations well and early so people have plenty of time to think about it,” he said.

“If you look at the honor lists of past winners, that’s a great example; we’ve had winners from across the country, from small farms, big farms, coaching. big coaches, small coaches, so the judges are really looking for people who have shown exceptional talent and commitment and I would encourage anyone thinking of nominating someone to go ahead. go ahead and do it.”

Nominations for the 2023 Student and Steadfast Employee Award will close on February 17, with the award ceremony being held on May 24 on the Gold Coast, coinciding with the Magic Millions nationwide sale.
Leadership Award (Study or Stability)—Sponsored by the Victoria Racing Club—Cup and A$10,000 to the winner. $3,000 for the runner-up.
Award given to an individual employee in a managerial or supervisory role in a school or barn who has demonstrated leadership qualities—in particular, in quality people management, counseling and support employees, care about workplace health and safety, are committed to continuous improvement, and demonstrate business acumen.
Horsemanship Prize (Stud or Stable)—Sponsored by Inglis—Cup and A$10,000 to the winner. $3,000 for the runner-up.
The award goes to an individual employee who has demonstrated riding talent, consistency, and reliability in or out of the saddle. Must include a close relationship with horses and a preference for animal welfare. Must demonstrate a degree of success with Purebred Dogs, whether it is in breeding or racing or both, born from their specific skill set.
A Devotion to Livestock Award—Sponsored by Magic Millions—Cup and A$10,000 to the winner. $3,000 for the runner-up.
An award to an individual employee who has demonstrated talent in thoroughbred riding skill, consistency and reliability in the stallion role. Must have at least 5 years of service in the livestock industry and must play a key role in the employer’s success.
Racing Dedication Award—Sponsored by the Lawn Club of Australia—Cup and A$10,000 to the winner. $3,000 for the runner-up.
The award is given to an individual employee who has demonstrated equestrian talent in racing as well as consistency and reliability in a racing role. Must have at least 5 years of service in the racing industry and must play a key role in the employer’s success.
Administrative and Supportive Services Award—Sponsored by the MRC Foundation—Cup and A$10,000 to the winner. $3,000 for the runner-up.
Award given to an individual working in any other administrative or support service role in the field of purebred breeding and racing. This includes, but is not limited to, management/company roles, sales positions, auctioneers, gardeners, veterinary practices, equine breeders, fencers, horse transporters , yard workers in sales companies, ranches or racecourses, equine dentists, and physiotherapists.
Purebred Care and Welfare Award—Sponsored by Racing Queensland—Cup and A$10,000 to the winner. $3,000 for the runner-up.
Reward an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to the care and welfare of Thoroughbred horses that are not actively racing and/or created greater awareness, passion, and interest in Thoroughbreds in its second/alternative career (breeding, breaking, pre- and post-race careers, retraining, retraining, providing a comfortable retirement, etc.). For example, this could be a quiet/salaried successful person or volunteering to retrain or re-educate the Purebred. (Winners will not be eligible for the Purebred Excellence Award.)
Newcomer Award (Study or Stable)—Sponsored by Thoroughbred Industry Careers and Marcus Oldham College—Cup, AU$5,000 to winner. $3,000 for the runner-up.
An award to an individual who has worked in the industry, in any capacity, for less than three years. Winners will demonstrate passion, pride and outstanding contributions to the Thoroughbred industry. The winner will stand out from other new entrants and will be identified as a valuable future member of the industry. (This winner will not be eligible for the Purebred Excellence Award.)
Purebred Excellence Award—Overall Award (Stud or Stable)—Sponsored by Godolphin—Cup and an additional A$5,000 for the winner.
Winners will be selected from one of five categories (i.e., Thoroughbred Care and Welfare Awards and Newcomer Awards are not included). They must have made a significant contribution, especially to the industry.
