Powerful gallop for life is good before BC Classic

A week before November 5 Longines Breeders ‘Cup Classic (G1) at Keenelandgymnast Amelia Green’s best summary of the final on-time workout for multiple 1st grade winners Life is good October 29 at the Lexington racetrack.

“He galloped in 1:39 and changed, which is normal for him,” Green said. “It’s not normal for the other horses, but it’s normal for him.”

With fans gathering towards the tracks to get the best view of the 9 a.m. ET breeze, Life Is Good picked up speed quickly to begin its work then stabilized at a steady pace. flying horror that he used to win three tier 1 stake races on three different tracks this season when he completed five hooks in 1:00 on 3/5. Coach Todd Pletcher says powerful galloping is a Life Is Good habit. That trait helped convince Pletcher that Life Is Good, who finished with a 5 3/4 win in last year’s Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) could stretch to 1 1/4 miles for Classic 5 November. .

“That gallop was perfect for him,” Pletcher said. “Everybody asks why we’re going for a mile and a quarter, and that’s because we’re used to seeing gallop like he did this morning. you’re confident he’ll go a little further.”

Sponsored by China Horse Club and WinStar Farm, Life Is Good opened the season with victory in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes presented by 1/ST BET (G1) at Gulfstream Park. That start marked his son’s first attempt at 1 1/8 mile Into mischief, and he was pointed to the Dubai World Cup 1/4 mile sponsored by Emirates Airline (G1).

While Life Is Good languished in fourth place in that race, Pletcher blamed Life Is Good’s defeat because he disliked the surface fatigue at Meydan as opposed to the added distance. He followed up with three clear wins in a row that he has led at all times. He won John A. Nerud Stakes (G2) seven games in a July 2 comeback match at Belmont Park followed by consecutive 1st grade scores at 1 1/8 mile at the Whitney Stakes at Racecourse Saratoga and Woodward Stakes in Belmont at the Big A meeting in Aqueduct race track.

With that impressive winning streak and a couple of great runs since that October 1 at Woodward, Pletcher is looking forward to another attempt at the classics.

“It’s a standard breeze of Life Is Good, very impressive,” Pletcher said of Saturday’s move. “I’m very pleased with the way he’s finished, the way he’s galloping. He’s doing very well.”

Pletcher also sent his powerful Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) duo with multiple tier 1 winners Malathaat and Nest . Malathaat, a 4-year-old daughter of Curlin completed four stretches in: 49 3/5 while Nest, Curlin’s 3-year-old daughter, completed the half-mile with: 50 2/5.

Both horses participated in the October 9 Distaff off victory when Malathaat captured the Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (G1) at Keeneland and Nest won the Beldame Stakes (G2) at Belmont during the Big A meeting. Malathaat was the champion. 3 years old in 2021, and Nest has a classic lead in that division this year.

“I think both are super wind. Both will be back up in 27 days, so we’re hoping to leave a little something in the tank and I think we’ve been able to do that. there,” Pletcher said. “They’re both holding the rope in their hands and on the reins and looking to do more so that’s what we’re filming. Last week was a little bit stronger because they went together, and we could be again. get together today, and they’ll probably be fine, but I just don’t want to risk them overdoing it today.”

The other horse was taken by Pletcher, the previous 1st place winner of the Breeders ‘Cup Classic Happy Saver , went at a powerful gallop on Saturday. He’ll enter the Classic with an official breeze of his work on October 21 in Keeneland, half a mile away at: 48 2/5.

Pletcher noted that Happy Saver ran well at the Hill ‘n’ Dale Metropolitan Handicap (G1) with his last official practice — four in: 48.75 on the Belmont training track — coming up 15 days ago that June 11 race. Happy Saver is second to Flightline in the Met Mile.
