One Police Officer Killed, Another Injured In Rochester, NY, Shooting
A Rochester, NY, police officer was killed and another injured Thursday night in what police described as an ambush.
Officials did not immediately provide details about the circumstances of the shooting, which occurred Thursday night on Bauman Street, north of downtown.
At a news conference Friday morning, Rochester police chief David Smith identified the slain officer as Anthony Mazurkiewicz, a 29-year veteran of the department. He was shot at least once in the upper body. A second officer, Sino Seng, who worked with the department for eight years, was shot in the lower body, the police chief said, and is recovering.
Police did not say if anyone had been arrested in connection with the shooting, and in a press release described an area-wide investigation “to hold anyone accountable for the heinous act.” this to justice.”
