OH! This Indian student has done what NO other major tech company can do! Real-time sign language translation

An Indian engineering student from Tamil Nadu has developed a new AI model that instantly translates sign language into English. Know the inspirational story.

Priyanjali Gupta, a third-year Engineering student, was motivated to do something groundbreaking. No, not from inspiration but because her mother once asked her to do something while studying. Well, that’s enough to work wonders! And she did.. Engineering students at Vellore Institute of Technology in Tamil Nadu created a model that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to translate American Sign Language (ASL) into English right away.

The Engineering student shared details of the project through her LinkedIn post, which reads, “Created this model using this cool Tensorflow Object Detection API. The model translates a few ASL symbols into English using a forward learning from the pre-trained ssd_mobilenet model. With that, she shared a demo video showcasing the AI-based ASL Detection Engine in action. And immediately, her post went viral on social media, garnering many compliments for her idea, helping to bridge the communication gap between the sign language duo and the English language. Brother.

This is how an Indian student developed an AI model..

Although the AI model translates some basic symbol codes into English such as Hello, I Love You, Thank you, Please, Yes, and No. The Python file collects images from your webcam for or all of the signs mentioned below in American Sign Language: Hello, I Love You, Thank you, Please, Yes and No.

Gupta accepts that her AI model uses transfer learning trained by other experts. Responding to a comment on her LinkedIn post, she admitted “building a deep learning model just for signature detection is a really hard problem but not impossible and I’m just a amateur student but i am learning and i believe that sooner or later our open source community who have more experience and learn than i will find a solution and maybe we can deep learning models are only for sign languages.”

She looked at it like a small child walking towards greater change. Her AI model is one that embraces and accepts sign language on a smaller scale. Additionally, she dedicated the project to data scientist Nicholas Renotte’s video tutorial on real-time sign language.
