Familiar names have topped the charts through the first eight PGA Tour events of the 2022-23 season as each event belongs to the previous PGA Tour winner. But the RSM Classic 2022 offers a great chance to be a first-time champion as the tournament’s three most recent winners claimed their first career wins at the event. Sea Island Golf Club in Saint Simons Island, Ga., will host the 2022 RSM Classic, teeing off on Thursday and carrying a $8.1 million prize pool.

Top RSM Classic Predictions for 2022
A big surprise the model is calling for at RSM Classic 2022: Day, a 12-time PGA Tour champion and one of the favorites 22-1, stumbles this week and most Likely not in the top 10. Day is a former world number one .1 but hasn’t had a single win since the 2018 season, with him falling to world number 175 just a month ago. But he’s still as impressive as he’s been for years and has finished in the top 25 at each of his four events this season. While the model thinks that streak continues, it’s not as optimistic as Day’s winning the tournament, partly because he’s not as successful in this course.
Day missed last year’s tournament and finished 50th or worse on two of the three attempts to take the course. While his resurgence was inspired by a great long match, the Australian was really struggling in the short match. Day ranked outside the top 100 in terms of strokes achieved: green space (0.031) and outside the top 90 in terms of strokes achieved: putts (0.101). A low score will be necessary to win here but Day’s inconsistency around and on the green is a huge red flag.
Another surprise: JJ Spaun, who had a 35-1 margin, took the title in a strong way. Spaun was ranked 321st in the world a year ago, but he has risen to his highest ranking which is now 84th. His promotion started with 16th place at last year’s event and he has 9 times topping the chart. 25s in calendar year 2022. Three of his last four tournaments have seen him finish in the top 25, so he enters the 2022 RSM Classic with plenty of momentum.
Spaun is credited as the runner-up on this course, runner-up at the 2017 RSM Classic. Since last season, he has made a total of seven consecutive cuts, so he has the high floor and always finds himself disputed.
Spaun combines a refined short game with precision from anywhere on the field. He ranks among the top 30% of the league in terms of strokes achieved: green space (0.221), correct driving rate (64.49%) and regulatory green rate (69.44). %).
