Nurse adopts patient’s dog so he can see his pet while he recovers

Pets are like family, and when we have no choice but to keep them, it can be heartbreaking. It’s not something that happens often, but sometimes there are things beyond our control that separate us from our loved ones – including our pets.

For a man in Rome, New York, things don’t go his way. Not only does John have to deal with serious medical problems, but he also has to deal with the reality of losing his best friend: his dog.

When John was hospitalized, he had no one else to take care of his pet so he was forced to give the puppy to the Humane Society of Rome. Breaking up with his dog was a challenge, but in the end, he had no choice. He has to be in the hospital and his dog is not allowed to be there with him.

While that would have been the end of some pet-owner relationships, John got a second chance thanks to a kind nurse!

RN, Jennifer, worked at Day Care for Adults at The Grand at Rome where John underwent rehabilitation. When she heard about John’s plight, she immediately went to the humane society and adopted his dog!

The organization shared the story on their Facebook, saying:

“After John was hospitalized, he was forced to give his dog to the Humane Society of Rome.

When our RN Jennifer heard about it, she immediately went there and adopted John’s dog so she could take him to visit while he finished his rehab!

This is what #BeGrand means! ”

Thanks to Jennifer, John can be at peace again knowing his dog has the same wonderful hands as him. Not only that, but he actually visited his pet dog during rehab!

Jennifer was able to bring her newly adopted dog to visit John as much as she could. Someone commented on the Facebook post, “his dog is the best therapy he can get!” And based on John’s smile, it looks like they’ve discovered:
