No longer required to display car road tax from 10/2, display e-LKM on mobile app – Loke

It is no longer required to display a road tax sticker on the windshield of your vehicle and this is effective from today, February 10. This is due to the road tax (lesen kenderaan motor, LKM) and our driver’s license is in digital form and Malaysians only need to present the digital versions on the JPJ app over the phone.

This major change was announced today by transport minister Anthony Loke, who was the first to talk about online renewal of road tax and lesen last monthas well as digitizing JPJ’s core services.

The internal pilot project starts today and drivers can display their e-LKM (road tax) and e-LMM (lesen) via the JPJ public portal or the MyJPJ mobile app. Along with that, Section 20 of the Road Traffic Act 1987 (Act 333) stipulating that LKMs must be affixed and displayed on vehicles will no longer be enforceable for items in phase one.

Phase one involves private vehicles, including motorbikes, for Malaysian citizens. However, there are many types of drivers and vehicles that still need to be labeled with road tax and permits – the list below.

“I welcome all drivers and vehicle owners to move to a digital platform. With digitization, congestion and long lines at JPJ counters will be reduced, and this will increase productivity and the comfort of rakyat,” said Loke, adding that for those who have not ready to go soft, you can still get and display the physical road tax, and use the physical lesen for the time being.

To get started, drivers must register for an account at JPJ’s portal or the MyJPJ app, which can be downloaded from App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei App Gallery. Open the app and display your document as needed.

What happens during the lockdown and the digital road tax doesn’t apply to me?

Loke emphasized that there will always be enforcement and action against anyone driving without a valid LKM and LMM. However, authorities will move away from the barriers and will instead adopt digital methods of enforcement.

Loke says a ‘gadget’ will be used to check cars as they pass by. Checking will also be done based on IC number (for driving license) and license plate (for road tax), so you don’t need to worry about how to provide digital road tax if You are driving someone else’s car.

When will this system be deployed?

Loke says the system goes into effect today. We tried the MyJPJ app and we obtained a digital driver’s license as well as a list of registered license plates for our users. The policy expiration date is also listed.

Initially when we try to register we get the message that we are already registered. This is when we realized MyJPJ seemed to be the front-end to the MySIKAP system because when we requested to reset our lost password we received an email from MySIKAP. When we reset the password, we were able to log in.

I have more questions about this new system, how can I get more information?

Questions can be directed to JPJ’s email at [email protected]or the faculty hotline at 03-2724 2522. Before asking, you’d better visit the FAQ section of JPJ’s website first.

What do you think of this “no more road tax” move? RIP, dodgy sticker.
