Nissan Z and Ariya stars with Eugene Levy in the Super Bowl commercial

It’s that time of year again: time for Super Bowl advertisement. And one of the first to come out of the gate was Nissan. The company selected to show Nissan Z 2023 and Electric Ariya in a star-studded commercial, but it makes us yearn for the Z commercials of the past.

It begins with Brie Larson arriving at the set at Z. Eugene Levy sees her and the car, and is impressed by the Z. Larson provides the keys to the turn around, and the gentle Canadian reluctantly drives one. something too sporty. But he tried it, took off, had a clumsy first shift, but started enjoying it, and also drove past Catherine O’Hara. Then Dave Bautista and Danai Gurira saw him, and they chased him. Suddenly, everything turned into a big budget action movie with long-haired Levy at the wheel. It turned out to be an action movie that everyone in the ad put together.

It’s good now. Nothing terrible, but it doesn’t seem like it really takes advantage of the many talents of the actors from Levy’s comedy to Bautista and Gurira’s action experience. And it’s not great from a product standpoint either. It says the Z is fun and does it well, but arguably the more important product for Nissan, the Ariya, which is essentially used as a regular car, rather than highlighting it as a the car is capable of style and fun tram.

And it’s made worse by the fact that there have been some really great Nissan Z commercials, especially those for the 300ZX, that inspire the new Z’s rear design. We’ve bookmarked two of our favorites. The above is an advertisement made by Ridley Scott and it conveys his sci-fi experience from “Alien” and “Blade Runner.” It shows a man running on a backward landscape that surpasses the cars of the future. It’s simple, elegant, and delivers the performance aspect of the twin-turbo 300ZX. Here’s a more fun ad where an action figure takes a fun drive through a house using a 300ZX remote and is joined by a doll. It also features an interesting cameo from Yutaka Katayama, also known as Mr. K, who is known as the man who gave us Z.

All we’re saying is that we think Nissan can do better in the advertising department. Oops, maybe a remake of one of these classics is in the works. Remakes are all the rage in Hollywood.
