Volkswagen say it will provide a GTI Model 40th Anniversary Edition as it reveals new for the 2023 model yearand now we can finally see it.
This particular model marks 40 years of GTI in the US (not the world), and it’s an exclusive model for our market. This package is sure to appeal to enthusiasts who want all the performance options in a compelling visual package. It starts with the base S trim, but adds DCC adaptive dampers, speed-sensitive steering, unique 19-inch wheels and summer performance tires normally reserved for the row Autobahn trim. head. It also starts at $34,150 for the manual, thousands of dollars cheaper than the $40,000+ Autobahn trim. If all you want is performance and looks, then this Anniversary Edition model looks like a sweet deal.
The appearance pack is put together by VW is a neat one. Two exclusive paints color available, including Tornado Red (pictured) and Urano Gray. Also optional (but not model-specific) are Opal White Pearl and Pomelo Yellow Metallic. All Anniversary Edition models will have a black roof with black mirror caps. The decals on the door sill have a honeycomb design and the number “40” is marked as Anniversary Edition. The 19-inch wheels we mentioned earlier are the same as what you’ll see on standard European GTIs, and they also have red stripe accents around the outer rim.
On the inside, you’ll get a “40” clasp at the bottom center of the steering wheel. Plaid seats are standard, and if you have the manual you get a golf ball-inspired gearshift knob instead of the new square knob on the regular GTI. The DSG-equipped models — priced at $35,950 — have the same part that looks like a beard trimmer.
Volkswagen says it plans to sell around 1,500 40th Anniversary Edition vehicles. It will go on sale sometime between the model year.
