Nintendo buys Dynamo Pictures Animation Studio
Nintendo is buying an animation studio. The company announced on July 14, 2022, that it is acquiring Japan-based Dynamo Pictures. According to Nintendo Press Release, the acquisition aims to “consolidate the planning and structure of visual content production within the Nintendo team.” The acquisition is expected to be worth 34.5 million JPY (about $250,000 USD).
When the deal closes in October 2022, Dynamo Pictures will be renamed “Nintendo Pictures”. It will focus on “the development of visual content using Nintendo IP (Intellectual Property).”
Dynamo Pictures is not particularly popular among anime fans. However, the animation studio CG has helped create various products in the anime industry. Dynamo is credited with the above work Rebuild Evangelion 2.0 movies, create models of Evangelion units. It is supported with CG animation for Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, Back arrow, Harlock: Space Pirates, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, Yuri !!! on the iceand Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. It also does motion capture for games like The story of the monster hunter, Persona 5, Death Strandingand even remake of NieR Replicant. It even gets to do MX4D work, adapting movies like Demon Slayer: Mugen Ship and Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 to the environmental impacts of the MX4D “Immersive Seating”.
Importantly, Dynamo Pictures has also worked with Nintendo before. In 2014, it helped produce Short Film Pikmina series of short CG-based Pikmin Game.
Nintendo’s acquisition of Dynamo ends in October 2022.
