Incidentally: “Stubborn Nintendo Fans” Reportedly Spent Over $40K Claiming a New F-Zero
Yesterday, there was a story made the rounds about a Nintendo shareholder who asked the company if it had any plans to revive past IPs such as future racing series F-Zerorole-playing game Baten Kaitosand many other titles like Wario Land.
Turns out this question isn’t cheap. Speaking to Business Insider, the individual is known as ‘Momiji‘ on social media, revealing how he spent over 5.6 million Japanese yen (over $40,000) on Nintendo stock just to ask Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukwara a question during the company’s latest shareholder meeting.
This same individual, who describes himself as a “crazy Nintendo fan”, bought 100 Nintendo shares in February for 56,430 yen per share (about over $400 per share), after sell shares to another company. He’s been playing Nintendo games since he was a kid and just can’t seem to get a good sense of the speed in F-Zero.
Before the shareholder meeting, there is no guarantee that he will be able to ask a question. Ultimately this is supposed to be a “reward”. Business Insider also noted how 100 shares of stock are required to get the right to attend Nintendo’s shareholder meeting in person.
So in the end, what is Nintendo’s answer? It “always” looks at how new titles and remakes are developed. This is what was said, thanks to the translation of Robert Sephazon (through the VGC):
“The reality is that it’s very difficult to develop new titles and remakes, including sequels, for every Nintendo game people ask for, but we’re grateful and appreciate the anticipation that fans for our game”
“We’re always looking at how to develop new titles and remakes that can be enjoyed by many players.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve received a response like this from Nintendo. As for F-Zero, its absence has raised concerns about the future of the series, but there are still people there (including former Nintendo employees) who seems to think that there is still hope.
