Following the success of Smite’s previous crossovers with Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we’re launching this time to bring you your favorite characters from Nickelodeon’s roster.

Bringing these iconic Nickelodeon characters into the Battlefield of the Gods has been an incredible experience for our team, and I’m so proud of how these skins came to be.

Why Nickelodeon?

“Excited” doesn’t even begin to explain how our team reacted to news of the Nickelodeon crossover. Our team participates in the project with great enthusiasm, developing imaginative ideas and great content. While we’ve worked with the Paramount team before, this crossover has covered so many different generations of childhood television that it brings back so much nostalgia for the team. We hope that our community will experience a similar feeling of nostalgia when they see some of their favorite Nickelodeon characters come to life in Smite.

This is our first crossover to include characters from many completely different shows, providing a fun challenge for the team. For example, how do you turn an aggressive musket-gun Tanuki (Danzaburou) into a shirt-clad Wallaby (Rocko), watching TV? Of course, by turning the musket into a remote control! We wanted to design every character in a way that was consistent with their Nickelodeon roots.

From the Gods of Olympus to the Hero of Nickelodeon…

Smite has come a long way since the launch of PS4 in 2016, from 17 gods to a total of more than 121. As the list of gods grows, so does the number of gods in the game. At first, precedent was set: Punishment was the Battlefield of the Gods – and so on; we will only include real gods and goddesses from past times.

As the game matured, we started pushing these boundaries. The team decided that King Arthur, from Arthurian mythology, would be an ideal addition to Punishment. Sure, he’s not a god, but he’s a figure of mythology.

We followed the Arthurian Pantheon with Cthulhu, the legendary Great Old Man with Tentacles. The legend of Smite is simple: If people believe in a god, if they talk about it, they will make it true – even more modern entries like Cthulhu. These legendary figures from history and mythology have breathed creative freedom into Battlegrounds – giving us the opportunity to include than characters that do not conform to the “standard” mold.

And as we work towards expanding our collection of characters in Smite, we want to maintain the authenticity of the game. why you will see all these skins as Interfaces and not God Additions. But we think these crossovers will resonate with our community because the idea of these crossovers is at the core of Smite. And we love to welcome new communities that are just as passionate about these great IPs as we are about the Smite teams.

Smite’s First Nickelodeon Hybrid: Avatar: The Last Airbender

The first Nickelodeon crossover to succeed Smite was the legendary Smite x Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover. The Titan Forge Games team is full of die-hard Avatar fans and is excited to bring the Avatar world to life in Smite. This unlimited transversal event saw Aang, Zuko, Korra and Naga face their toughest challenge yet: the Battleground of the Gods.

This project included many technical challenges that the Titan Forge team had to overcome. Example: How do we turn Merlin, a full-sized adult, into a child (Aang, from Avatar: The Last Airbender)? Merlin was chosen for Aang because of the use of different elements. It seemed like it would be the best fit for Aang’s Character- but Merlin doesn’t look like Aang. The prototyping, rigging, and animation departments had to work together to make the skin a success.

Aang is internally referred to as a “God Level” skin. He does not share any of Merlin’s underlying assets. The only thing that resembles Merlin is the timing of abilities. He was created from scratch, completely from scratch. Every part of Aang’s skin is created brand new so we can ensure that Aang is presented in the best possible way. A bunch of us here on the Titan Forge team are big fans of the show, so we can easily find references to match the game.
