Newly crowned King Zulu in South Africa
Misuzulu ka Zwelithini was crowned king of Zulu in a traditional ceremony in South Africa.
The coronation comes after a years-long family feud where some royals have suggested he is not the rightful heir to the throne, with claims that the late king’s will had been forged.
Thousands of people gathered at KwaKhangelamankengane Palace in KwaZulu-Natal to see the new king, who entered the sacred cattle kraal to call upon his ancestors before being proclaimed to both the living and the dead as kings. New Zulu.
The throne has no official political power but is still influential as one-fifth of South Africa’s population is Zulu.
