New Yorker Festival, Hosted Will Host Bono and Rep Jamie Raskin

The New Yorker Festival returns with its 23rd edition, which includes conversations with Bono, Quinta Brunson, Ben Stiller, Chloe Bailey, US Representative Jamie Raskin and more, and will run September 7-9 October.

Bono, the Irish rock star and more recently the motorcycle lion in “Sing 2,” will chat with The New Yorker editor, David Remnick, about his new memoir and decades of him as an activist and musician. The book “Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story” will be released in November.

“Like so many memoirs I’ve read, the most fascinating part is how one becomes who one is,” Remnick said in an interview.

Quinta Brunson, who plays the nimble but clumsy elementary school teacher in “Abbot Elementary School,” will speak to the magazine’s television critic, Doreen St. Felix. And Chloe Bailey (of R&B sister duo Chloe x Halle) will perform live at the festival after a chat.

Remnick says that politically oriented conversations can be carried out by artists, authors and actors, as well as legislators. Raskin, a Democrat of Maryland and a member of the January 6 House selection committee, along with three magazine writers, will be participating in the live taping of The Political Scenes podcast. New Yorker.

The political conversation will continue with a talk on Asian American culture and representation, with chef David Chang, filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung, writer Min Jin Lee and actor Sandra Oh. And climate activists Sara Blazevic and Molly Burhans, and climate expert Leah Stokes, will delve deeper into the future of the environment.

“All of these people in cultural life are also involved in politics in many ways,” says Remnick.

Writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie will return to the festival, where Hari Kunzru, Elif Batuman, Gary Shteyngart, Rachel Kushner and Ottessa Moshfegh will also appear.

For comedy, Molly Shannon and Vanessa Bayer, the actresses and comedians who starred on the Showtime series “I Love That for You,” will chat with Susan Morrison, an editor for the magazine. And comedians Hasan Minhaj, Phoebe Robinson, Billy Eichner and Jerrod Carmichael will also join the festival chats, along with directors Stiller, the Daniels duo, Sharon Horgan and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Remnick says that with the return to cinemas and the arrival of vaccine boosters, he feels confident sharing a room with readers, thinkers and performers, and that the festival will organize a select number of events.

“Part of the cultural way of life was taken from us, and now it has been restored,” he said.
