When Erie . FortressThe 125th racing season begins at the end of May, and there will be a new voice in the stands.
Experienced equestrian, amputee and television personality Doug McPherson will add a new skill to his racing resume when he is announced. This 26-year-old has been a guest announcer on a number of different shows, including Honeysuckle and Sunland Park in New Mexico, but he will be the new voice of racing at Fort Erie this season.

McPherson worked as a groom in his father’s stable at Honeysuckle, but his first racing job was as a runner when he was 13 years old. His first disability gig was at Ajax Downs, writing for their show and making a guest appearance on their pre-race show. He authored the tip at Kawartha Downs for a couple of seasons, which is also where he calls his first race. He has spent the past three years writing Handicapper’s Journal for Woodbine and is also a frequent guest on their pre-race show.
“I am delighted to be a part of the Fort Erie team and I look forward to taking on a new challenge in my career,” McPherson said. “Equestrian racing in Ontario is my passion and I am grateful for this opportunity to expand my involvement in the industry.”
McPherson is taking over the announcement gig from Frank Salive, who retired from calling races at the border oval after six years with Fort Erie.
