a statue of Urusei Yatsura heroine Lum is taking a bit of a “neoclassical” approach to the iconic character. The new Lum figure copies her updated character design from the 2022 animated remake of Urusei Yatsura. [Thanks, Comic Natalie!]
The figure is made to 1/7 scale and is 230mm (about 9 inches) tall. Made of PVC and ABS plastic, it was created by Design Coco. Design Coco also created Usada Pekora character life size on display at Animate Akihabara for the New Year.
The Lum figure is hand-colored and designed to reflect Lum’s design as in the new anime. The remake design is pretty close to the original, but most notably takes a different approach to Lum’s hair color. Other versions of the iconic character make her hair a slightly darker and flatter forest green. Thanks to the remake’s tinting style, Lum’s hair looks brighter and has a gradation that makes it look like it’s glowing. This is reflected in the color of the figure.
This figure also emphasizes the transparent quality of the skin texture. With the richness of exposure afforded by Lum’s classic tiger print bikini, skin textures make up a significant part of the design. Lum is posed with his back to the viewer, while standing on a pedestal decorated with stars.
The Urusei Yatsura Lum figure remake is on sale Aniplex+ . Online Store In Japan, pre-orders will cost 19,800 yen (about $152 USD). Ordered figures are expected to ship in January 2024. The remake can be viewed on HIDE.
