New DSLR camera coming soon
You read it right. The era of the DSLR is not dead yet.
There’s no question that the era of mirrorless cameras has begun, but one company, Ricoh (Pentax), said a few years ago that they will continue to produce DSLR cameras. Ricoh’s Hiroki Sugahara (General Manager Marketing Communications, Global Sales and Marketing Center, Smart Vision Business Unit) even goes as far as to say that they expect users to return with DSLR cameras in a few years. This has made them the only major company still making DSLRs, and it looks like another is on the way later this month.
Rumor has it that the company will release an update for K-70 DSLR at the end of this month. There is very little information available at the moment but it looks like the camera will be available in black and two special colors, crystal white and crystal blue, with a limited run of 700 pieces each. The price will likely be set at ¥119,800 (about $800).
While most of the photography industry has moved on from DSLRs, there are certainly users who will always prefer them to mirrorless cameras and it will be interesting to see if Ricoh Pentax cameras can make a difference. niche market as the only new option for mirrorless cameras. Their fans have been quite loyal to the brand. Years ago, I nearly turned around because I was so in love with the K-1, only the lack of lens selection held me back. Hopefully we’ll see the new camera soon.
