At this time In his career, Rough Crafts designer Winston Yeh has been on the loose. He has such an extensive catalog of top builds, that he can pick and choose the best features of each, and end up with something new and awesome. That’s exactly how he designed this devilish thing Ducati monster 821 cafe racer.

“It’s called ‘modular design,’” Winston countered. And he could be pointing at something. rudimentary crafts is a hitmaker who rarely misses the mark — so why mess with a good thing?

In this project, Winston copied a subframe design that he used in a previous project. Ducati monsterand simulated his first shield BMW R nineT build. The scalloped bodywork, glossy paintwork and thoughtful stripes are also typical of Rough Crafts, as is the bike’s quirky moniker; ‘Air battle Bologna.’

“I want it to have those classics cafe racer stream,” Winston told us. “A bit of roundness and elegance—but still very recognizable as Raw Crafts.”

The 2019 Ducati Monster was chosen to build simply because the customer already owned it. But that suits Winston very well.

“I have always been a huge fan of Monster, especially the 1200 and 821 platforms,” he told us. “Minimally screwed tubular subframe makes it easy to modify with a custom tail. And despite the more powerful V4 Streetfighter in Ducati’s lineup, the simplicity of the L-twin still provides a much better foundation for a custom build.”

To start, Winston took the digital files for the aforementioned subframe design and got a new part CNC milled. It’s much more compact than the stock arrangement, while still paying homage to the Monster’s love affair with lattice frames. At the top is a 3D printed tailgate with a beautiful two-piece leather saddle.

The clamshell-shaped aluminum fuel tank has also been modified. It is adorned with a Rough Crafts fuel cap and a pair of handcrafted tank badges.

At the front, the 3D printed bibs feature a trimmed windshield and a pair of vertically stacked Koso headlights. All the parts may come from different sources, but the overall look is fluid and cohesive. That’s partly due to the glossy paint job, which includes carbon fiber inlays on all parts and the double stripes that mark the Monster’s new lines.

Glancing behind the bib, you’ll see a CNC machined upper yoke with integrated clamp bars. Winston designed the Ducati with Motogadget grips and Beringer controls, but kept the OEM switches and dashboard, shifting the dashboard to the new top yoke mount points. The CNC Racing brake lever guard adds a bit of flair to the racing car.

Moving on to suspension, Rough Crafts fitted a set of Andreani cartridges to the stock front forks and swapped the bottom yoke for one from CNC Racing. Black painted Öhlins shock absorbers support the rear.

17-inch carbon fiber wheels from BST save weight, while Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tires provide sporty grip. The braking system uses Beringer brake calipers with MotoMaster discs at both ends. The Ducati Monster 821 goes, turns and stops pretty well in its original form, so we can only imagine how exciting it will be in this version.

With the Monster almost completely annihilated, it is impossible to ignore the elegant twin exhaust system that hangs on its right-hand side. At a glance, it looks like a pair of headers that line up together into a pair of classic SC-Project loudspeaker mufflers. But the actual flow is two into one into two.

“I have always found that Ducati does this fusion of two in one super nicely on both the Monster 821 and the Scrambler line,” he explains. “It was so well blended, it seemed like the dual titles just flowed into each other. I decided to keep it, and then duplicate it where the collection splits into two silencers.”

Other upgrades include Sato Racing rear swing arm, Sprint Filter and Koso LED lights to handle turn signal and taillight duties. Winston also added a neat carbon ignition cover from CNC Racing.

As usual, Winston worked closely with a group of local craftsmen to make his vision a reality. Rover Works Custom Paint treats the paint, Anodizing handles all hardware finishes and Chirui Leather Custom treats the upholstery. Artitek Ltd. responsible for all the CNC work, MS Pro in charge of fabrication, SFC Simon Fiber Craft doing the carbon trim, and 2 Abnormal Sides creating the fuel tank badges, and CH Moto assisting with final assembly .

Is this Ducati Monster 821 familiar to Taiwanese tuners? Absolute. But that’s not a bad thing. As far as we know, the Beast has never looked this good.

If Rough Crafts offered this product as a kit, it would be hard for us to refuse.
