Net Zero Policy Violates Climate Change Act – Do You Stand Out for That?

Essay by Eric Worrall

The UK Supreme Court has ruled that the government has not provided enough details on how it plans to cut CO2 emissions. But the plaintiffs, Friends of the Earthfor once could have done us all a favor.

Climate change: Campaigners back ‘net zero’ ruling

Campaigners have hailed the Supreme Court’s ruling that the government’s ‘net zero’ strategy violates its obligations under the Climate Change Act.

The strategy commits the UK to cutting greenhouse gas emissions that are warming the planet to reach “zero” emissions by 2050.

The court ruled that there were not enough details on how the goal was reached.

The Judgement during the UK’s first red alert for heat ordered the government to submit a new report to Parliament.

The government responded that its net zero strategy was still official policy and noted that the strategy itself had not yet been quashed by the courts.

Campaigners say the ruling means the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) will have to update its climate strategy to include a quantitative account of how its policies are. climate goals will be achieved.

This British high court ruling echoes the 2019 ruling, which The Dutch Supreme Court ruled the Dutch government violated its own climate laws.

Personally, I love these kinds of rulings, because they punish hypocrisy in a political environment.

In my opinion, the UK government has not provided details on how it plans to cut emissions, because it does not know how to achieve its own climate targets. I believe British politicians have adopted climate change as a smoke curtain, helping to fool voters into thinking they intend to do something about CO2 emissions.

By tearing up the smokescreen, Friends of the Earth have done us all a favor, by bringing about a day when politicians will be forced to admit that they have no real intention of doing anything wrong. Anything to dramatically reduce CO2 emissions.
