Munro Car unveils rugged 4×4 electric car on December 5


Scottish EV startup Munro . car will soon unveil its first production vehicle, a rugged all-electric off-road vehicle called Mk1.

The global launch of the ‘world’s most capable 4×4 all-electric utility vehicle’ will take place on December 5 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and the company has released a teaser sketch tease.

The vehicle’s modular construction allows customization for ‘heavy-duty’ commercial or specialized applications and Munro is focused on creating a 4×4 that is easy to own and built to last. long.

Munro Xe has published the Mk1’s design specifications and prototype images.

It says the Mk1 delivers 280kW of power and 700Nm of torque, and uses an 80.1kWh battery with a claimed range of 270km – although it hasn’t specified any test cycles.

The Mk1 supports AC charging up to 22kW and DC charging up to 100kW, which means it can be charged from 15 to 80% in 36 minutes at a DC charging station.

Off-road capability is at the heart of this vehicle, intended for use in harsh agricultural, mining and forestry terrains.

There is four-wheel drive with a two-speed transmission and locking differential, with the 4×4 having a ground clearance of 45 cm for the body and 29 cm for the axle and 100 cm of wading capacity.

Munro designed the Mk1 as a sturdy machine, with stiff front and rear axles, 3500kg towing capacity and 1000kg payload.

The five-door, five-seat 4×4 model uses a galvanized steel chassis and aluminum body panels.

“We decided early on not to reinvent the wheel. Co-founder Ross Anderson says simple and readily available parts help reduce production costs and provide owners with easily accessible means to service and repair their own vehicles.

A recent partnership with Glasgow-based Wyre will see Munro Vehicles partnering with the EV rental and management platform to ship EVs to the US and Canadian markets.

“We see the Munro 4×4 EV as a serious and exciting opportunity for many of our customers across the US and one that will help us grow from an initial order of 50 vehicles next year. to about 2,500 by 2025,” said Wyre CEO Rebecca Hansen.

“One specific US customer market we are targeting is the country’s huge electric utility sector, where companies need to show customers that they are serious about offering EVs in their fleets. mine. Customers in the oil and gas, mining and forestry industries are also among those on our radar.”

Production of the Munro Mk1 will begin in Glasgow later this year, with the first shipments expected to begin in 2023.

Pricing will likely be confirmed at launch but it’s expected to cost £75,000 in the UK and $98,500 in the US (AU$132,584-146,142).

The company expects to sell 50 units by 2023, increasing to 500 units by 2024 and 2,500 units by 2025.
