Mother monkey and baby monkey enjoy a second chance together after life at the lab

The mother-child monkey duo, Nanette and Gabby, had a rough start to life, but now they are enjoying every day at their home, Black Beauty Ranch.

The mother rhesus gave birth to Gabby when they were trapped in a primate biomedical research lab. Although most baby monkeys are obtained from their mothers at laboratories like these, fortunately the two of them have been raised together as if they had been in the wild.

They form an instant bond, and having each other is the reason why they survived in the lab.

In 1997, they were given a second chance at life when they retired after 10 years from the research facility and were sent to a reserve in Murchison, Texas, where they would receive intensive care and recover from their trauma. forever.

The reserve covers 1,400 acres and is home to nearly 1,000 species of domestic and exotic animals, many of which have been rescued from abattoirs, trophy camps and research laboratories such as where Nanette and Gabby were. Some of the animals there are also rescued from roadside zoos or the exotic pet trade.

Rescued animals include horses, bison, cattle, antelope, monkeys, reptiles, tigers, etc.

This year, 35-year-old Nanette and 29-year-old Gabby have spent 20 years together at Black Beauty Ranch, and their bond is stronger than ever.
