The power of the game in the palm of your hand
The Electric Gloves is one of the more well-known classic peripherals, using gloves to strap the controller completely to your wrist. It’s for older Nintendo consoles, but will modders work? above YouTube used the controller to connect it to something a bit more modern Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit.
Will It Work has many videos, which break down how they connect different controllers and consoles together. There are some wild connections like Donkey Kong such as bongos connected to iPhone or phone with SNES mouse.
In videoDoes It Work shows that Electric Gloves work with Pokemon Legend: Arceus, which allows hand movements to move the player’s character. By using the USB RetroPort and Titan One software, they can get the Switch to discover the Power Glove just like any regular controller.
But they soon ran into some odd problems with fingers being mapped as “sliders” and incorporating acceleration into the mix. Auto-acceleration can be an option, but while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe have that option, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit do not do.
Will It Work started writing a script to create their own version of auto-acceleration, and it all came together. They go a little bit of fun around their basement to show it off, flying around with motion controls. They say they will continue to work on integrating the actual Power Glove finger controls but for now, at least, there is a working Power Glove integration with Mario Kart Live.
Power cruises’
Is it a viable alternative? Sure is not. And I imagine most Mario Kart Owners also don’t have a spare electric glove in their closet. Still, it’s really cool to see technology being toyed with in this way, and to see Power Glove still add something fun and new to a game decades later.
The controller operator was amazing at making interesting ways for game play and remote control Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit seems like incredible fodder for more mods. Of course, once we integrate Power Glove better.
