Minshall’s Tunechi Sets Sights on Grey Stakes
The $150,000 Grey Stakes (G3) features a card of 10 hopeful 2-year-olds, along with the $150,000 Mazarine Stakes (G3) with a field of six runners, Nov. 4 at Woodbine Racetrack.
The 1 1/16 mile Tapeta race will go off as race 8 and includes Barbara Minshall trainee Tunechi, comes into Saturday off a fourth-place effort in the Sept. 16 Summer Stakes (G1T) at Woodbine. The Outwork colt is campaigned with Hoolie Racing Stable, Legion Racing, Conover Stable, and Ribble Farms and has exclusively raced at Woodbine.
Other runners in gate order include Mark Casse’s first-out winner Sherif Ali , Display Stakes second Two Ghosts ; Sept. 24 winner Jayhawk for D.J. Stable; Colebrook Farms Simply in Front , second runner up in the Sept. 16 Natalma Stakes (G1T); morning line favorite Piper’s Factor for Katerina Vassilieva, Oct. 14 Cup and Saucer Stakes third King Rosso for Al and Bill Ulwelling, Break the Spell for trainer David Cotey who owns the Mohaymen colt with Richard Forbush, fellow Casse trainee and never off the board Midnight Mascot , and Kevin Attard will saddle Bictoria Stakes winner and Algonquin Stakes second Pipit .
The next race, the 1 1/16 mile Mazarine over the all-weather track, showcases favorite Tripolina for X-Men Racing 3, Madaket Stables, and SF Racing. The 2-year-old Constitution filly won her two previous starts, including the Oct. 15 Display Stakes, both at Woodbine, she breaks from gate 5.
Oct. 15 Glorious Song Stakes third Witwatersrand joins her for owner Gary Barber, Rachel Halden trainee Uphill Dance , William Thomson Jr’s That Girl Artemus , Glorious Song second Mystic Lake for Saffie Joseph Jr, and grade 1 placed Simply in Front who is double entered in the Grey Stakes.
