Mini Aceman concept previews a flashy, funky EV underneath Countryman

Mini has big plans for her futureand it all revolves around electrification and fun, vibrant design. Some of that has been expressed with ambitious concepts like Urbanaut mini vanbut now we’re looking at what’s coming with the Mini Aceman (a name quite similar to the ill-fated two-door Paceman). At this point, it’s still a show car, but it hints at a production electric SUV.

The overall shape is clearly Mini. It’s a boxy little thing with a contrasting roof, wraparound glass, fender flares, large headlights and a massive grille. But everything is now beveled and angled. The grille has two separate sides, as well as the headlights, which match the corners. The wheel arches are made square, the whole body has more chisels. It gives the whole thing a sturdier shape than the regular Mini, suitable for intersection Body style and mission. And because it’s an EV, it has a full grille and flat door handles. All of these aspects are likely to appear in the production Aceman. Perhaps not appearing in the production model is the flashy LED grille that can display all sorts of things color and samples. It also matches the same animated puddle lights. We also suspect that the production model will feature bright orange coatings on the external speakers to provide safe sound as well as a welcome sequence sound. Union Jack taillights may be happening, though, as they’re already in the current production Mini lineup. That Union Jack roof price is also not out of the question.

Mini also notes that the production Aceman will slide between the Mini Hardtop and Mini Countryman in the squad. The size seems to back that up. It’s about an inch longer than the four-door Mini Hardtop and about six inches taller. And all those numbers are lower than the larger Countryman, save for the height, which is similar.

Mini Aceman Ideas

The interior is even more interesting than the exterior. Mini says it has applied the concept of “Charming Simplicity” to the car, and this is where it really shows up. It just has a simple dashboard in front of the fun green steering wheel and mounted on top of it is a circular OLED touchscreen infotainment screen. It continues the design idea laid out by the original Mini revival in the early 2000s, but is very discreet. Below the screen is an oval control strip with a selection of physical toggles for the stereo system and climate control, a further take on the toggles introduced by the modern Mini. older than that. The infotainment system also seems to be built on top of Android. All of these seem likely to be manufactured. Less likely are wild, ’90s-feeling interior colors and upholstery. The same goes for the expansive display system, where graphics from floating clouds to navigational maps can be projected onto the dashboard.

Unfortunately, the Mini hasn’t provided any details about the powertrain beyond the fact that it’s electric. So this is clearly just a design exercise. But with a Production version of Aceman is expected to come out sometime in 2024We should finally get some details regarding power, range and more in a few years.
