During tonight’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING TV show, it was announced that a high-stakes match of the undefeated boxers would round out SHOWTIME’s 2022 boxing lineup. On Saturday, December 17, lightweight rival Michel “La Zarza Ali” Rivera (24-0, 14 KOs) will take on Derrick James-trained Frank “The Ghost” Martin (16-0, 12 KOs). in 12 light innings a title elimination match in the main event BOX COMPETITION TIME in a featured event Top Boxing Champion
Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and currently fighting out of Miami, Fla., Rivera burst onto the scene in 2019, making his US debut with a win over Rene Tellez Giron. The 24-year-old continues to sublimate with 5 more victories in 2020 and 2021, including knocking out Jon Fernandez and Anthony Mercado. Most recently, he beat Jerry Perez to a unanimous decision win in October after overtaking the previously undefeated Joseph Adorno en route to a unanimous decision in March.
The 27-year-old Martin has been promoted to lightweight in 2021 with a couple of impressive wins before taking home a New Year’s Day KO against Romero Duno. In 2021, Martin beat the previously undefeated Perez in a dominant performance in April, before getting a unanimous decision on Ryan Kielczweski in August. He showed the full complement of his skills that have made him one of the most talked about emerging players in the 135-pound division during his last outing in July. , when he methodically destroyed Jackson Mariñez before stopping him in the 10th and final Round. Originally from Indianapolis, Ind., Martin now trains in the Dallas area under the guidance of James with his promoter, heavyweight champion Errol Spence Jr.
