“I think it was a good fight,” Devin Haney told Marcos Villegas about fightHub in a recently released video. “Ryan (Garcia) has height, length, speed, but Tank has that power. He has that neutralizer. Really he does. A native and multi-division title in Baltimore, Davis won all but two of the games with his spotless background in the distance. However, Haney warns in the video that Garcia will have an effective weapon of his own as he steps into the ring to face Davis in their April 22 superfight.
Undisputed and undefeated lightweight world champion Haney said: “A safe bet would be Tank, but you can’t rule out Ryan either.” Haney feels Garcia, aside from his substantial physical tools, believes he can win. “He’s got the speed,” Haney said, “he’s got the strength and I don’t think he’s scared. I think he went there to win.” Haney, of course, had good reason to be interested in the fight. For a future showdown with a winner – or even a loser – is entirely possible. However, first, Haney will likely have to overcome former lightweight king Vasyl Lomachenko.
Boxing is boxing, the Haney-Lomachenko match took place a long time ago. However, Haney assures Villegas in the video that a battle between him and Loma is certain. “The fight is bound to happen,” Haney said. Indeed, Haney claims there’s only one issue that must be resolved before the setting is set for him and Lomachenko to meet in the ring: “Just the location,” he said. Of course, Haney-Loachenko might not have the fireworks that Davis-Garcia might have (“If Tank wanted to blow him out of the water,” Haney said of Davis, “we wouldn’t be surprised.”).
However, a Haney-Loma fight promises chess at the highest level. Loma can turn opponents and throw punches like some others. What about Haney? The man was a master of ingenuity, one who had never tasted failure. And don’t forget that every boxer can punch. Haney and Loma may not turn off the lights like Davis and Garcia did, but such as not so long ago, when Loma sent four high-profile opponents off their stools.
There are some really interesting matches to be made here – especially when one features star Shakur Stevenson. Here’s hoping these potential fights will end the way Davis-Garcia, a real big one was made.
