Mexico beat Costa Rica 2-0 to advance to the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup
Orbelin Pineda scored on the penalty spot in the 52nd minute, Erick Sanchez one more goal in the 87th minute and Mexico beat Costa Rica 2-0 Saturday night to reach the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Mexico will play Guatemala or Jamaica on Wednesday in Las Vegas to qualify for the July 16 finals in Inglewood, California.
Pineda has his second goal of the tournament and ninth in 58 international appearances, sending his shot to the left of the keeper Kevin Chamorro, who reacted differently. Mexico was awarded a penalty by Honduran referee Saíd Martínez when Kendall Watson charge to the rear of the Henry Martin.
Sánchez came on in the 84th minute and scored his second international goal, from Roberto Alvarados cutback pass.
In the first game, Panama guest routing Cata 4-0 and advance to the semi-finals with USA or Canada on Wednesday in San Diego. Ismael Diaz scored a hat-trick in just over nine minutes of the second half.
Edgar Bárcenas put Panama ahead in the 19th minute, and Díaz added goals in the 56th, 63rd and 65th minutes.
The United States takes on Canada on Sunday in Cincinnati in the opening second game against Guatemala-Jamaica.
