West Indian polisher Chris Gayle will turn 43 next month but it seems that the ‘Cosmic tycoon’ has no intention of retiring from this sports career. Gayle, the top scorer in the T20s with 14,562 to his name, is currently gearing up for the upcoming ‘6ixty’ – a new 60-ball cricket tournament in the Caribbean Islands, which begins late on Wednesday. While everyone cheered to see him hit the ball again, Gayle praised his bowling skills, and even called himself ‘the greatest off-spinner’.
“You know? My bowling is natural. Sure, I have to hit the ball. I’m the greatest off-spinner of all time. Murali (Muttiah Muralitharan) won’t dispute that for sure. I have the best economy, not even Sunil Narine can get close to that,” Gayle told ESPNcricinfo.
Talking more about ‘6ixty’, he said he was excited to return to the cricket field with a new format.
“I’m really excited to be back on the pitch. I missed it. I’m like a kid back, looking forward to the first game… To debut. I’ll have to get back in shape. I “I’m still in shape but just need a little bit of preparation here and there to get in that cricket mindset,” he added.
Gayle last played for the West Indies was at last year’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.
