Mets are reported to have signed a contract with Kodai Senga for 5 years, worth $75 million

The Mets did it again.

New York’s spending continued on Saturday as the club signed Japanese pitcher Kodai Senga on a five-year, $75 million deal, according to multiple reports.

After 11 seasons on the Nippon Professional Baseball Team, Senga is finally slated to compete in professional leagues after exercising his international free agency rights. The soon-to-be 30-year-old hurdler is having the best year of his professional career, registering an ERA of 1.89 and 159 shots in 148 rounds in 2022.

Senga becomes the latest high-profile freelance agent to strike a deal with the Mets, join Justin Verlander and Brandon Nimmo just in the last six days.

Jordan Shusterman wrote this about Senga in early november while rating hard to throw right handed as human Free agent number 20 This winter:

Quote

Senga has been one of the best pitchers in Japan for the past decade, and is predicted to become the latest top NPB team to make the move to MLB. His fast ball has a speed of up to 99 mph, but his handball is the real leader. But for all the hype and conspiracies surrounding Senga, some teams will prefer to target the starters who are already there, accomplishing that.
