The Jets put in a surprising effort against the Buccaneers, taking a 24-20 lead with two minutes left in the game. A dead fourth or less transition resulted in a win in the classic Tom Brady game at MetLife Stadium – and it doesn’t come without drama.
The Jaguars found an opposite way to lose on Sunday, by being completely knocked out by Mac Jones and the Patriots by a 50-10 scoreline. The loss pushed Jacksonville to 2-14 and another game closer to the second consecutive No. 1 overall. It will run through Week 18 with the Lions still running after a big loss to the Seahawks.
Unfortunately for the Jags, their last overall first pick wasn’t great: Trevor Lawrence had another forgettable day, throwing one-touch to three interceptions in the loss to New England. While Lawrence usually gets a ticket for this season, there’s reason for Jags fans to enter the season with a bit of a reservation.
Jacksonville can only hope that their next pick – and previous pick – turns out to be commoditized moving forward. The Jaguars draw the Colts at home in Week 18 while the Lions host the Packers to determine who will pick first in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Defense is the name of the game in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Featured by two top passers – Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux and Michigan’s Aiden Hutchinson – this year’s class of defenders could prove to be foundational pieces for teams looking to increase D.
After the competitive pool, NFL teams can save on secondary picks: LSU winger Derek Stingley is a former All-American consensus – including earning a Sporting News nod in 2019 – and possibly one of the top five picks in April. Recruiters and analysts rated Stingley as the character with the best CB prospects from far and wide in this year’s draft.
Along with Stingley in a solid second group is Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton, who could also be a good bet to be the first DB across the board. Fighting Irish safety was honored as the All-American consensus this past season, and for good reason: He scored three interceptions for one of the nation’s top defenses and one was named a finalist for the Bednarik Awards in 2021.
On the offensive side of the ball, teams looking for a back four saviors will have options, although it remains to be seen whether or not a No 1 passer appears before the draft: North Carolina’s Sam Howell is the latest to announce, joining Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett and Ole Miss’ Matt Corral.
Cincinnati’s Desmon Ridder and Liberty’s Malik Willis are also expected to attend the 2022 NFL Draft.
