The Mercedes-Benz EQS has been facelifted for the 2024 model year, not only changing the styling but also updating the powertrain and kit list. Starting with the first entry on the list, the German automakers say their flagship electric vehicle (EV) is now “even more status-conscious” than before.

In an effort to make the EQS even more distinctive, the EQS’s black grille now comes with chrome inserts as standard on the Electric Art Line trim level. Chromed and flush-mounted bars eventually replaced the Mercedes-Benz badge, so to ensure viewers still knew this was a Mercedes-Benz, there was now a three-pointed star standing on the bonnet .

According to the company, the standard Electric Art exterior now comes with standard AMG Style. This includes the body-colored AMG-specific front bumper with gloss black A-wings and chrome trim, high-gloss chrome front splitter, fairings and fins on the air intakes, Side skirts as well as rear mudguard. with a diffuser element.

As for the interior, the B-pillar air vents now feature galvanized chrome trim and MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) is now standard on the EQS. Vehicles equipped with the optional Rear Convenience Plus package with executive seats will now have a special tilting footrest for passengers sitting behind the front co-driver.

From the “boss seat”, the backrest can be adjusted up to 38 degrees while the front passenger seat can be folded forward to maximize legroom. This package includes heating and pneumatic rear seat depth adjustment, along with an illuminated trim integrated into the backs of the front seats. Another notable modification is the addition of 5mm of foam in the backrest for a more comfortable sitting experience.

Powertrain changes for the EQS include a new battery with an increased energy capacity of 118 kWh from 108.4 kWh. With this, the company says the maximum range of the EQS450 4Matic has increased to 799 km from 717 km, which is about 11% more than before. Meanwhile, the rear-wheel drive EQS450+ is capable of reaching up to 822 km – these figures all comply with the WLTP standard.

In addition to the larger battery pack, the EQS now comes standard with a heat pump for better comfort and climate efficiency, and resilience levels have been increased through new software for regenerative braking system. The latter are said to reduce the use of brake discs, although they will sometimes be applied automatically as a form of maintenance.

For EQS models with 4Matic (dual motor, all-wheel drive), towing capacity has increased to 1,700 kg from 750 kg. These models also come with a Disconnect Unit (DCU) that automatically decouples the electric motor on the front axle depending on the driving situation and required performance. At low loads, the DCU switches to rear-wheel drive mode, with the electric motor and transmission on the front axle not contributing to increased range.

Finally, the Automatic Lane Change (ALC) function is available in the EQS and is supported on motorways with separate two-lane structures with a posted speed limit of no more than 140 km/h – this is part of of Distronic Active Distance Assist with Active Steering Assist .
