Mercedes-Benz Actros, Arocs 2024 in Malaysia – now with Euro 5 engine, compatible with B30 biodiesel
While Malaysia continues to only require Euro 4 emissions standards for new vehicles, Hap Seng Trucks Distribution (HSTD) is continuing to launch the revised Mercedes-Benz Actros, now with Euro 5 engines. Events This also saw the launch of an off-road focused model arocs to the Malaysian market also with cleaner engines.
There are a total of three variants of the Actros and two variants of the Arocs. The previous version can have 2033 4×2 and 2640 6×2 configurations, equipped with OM470 10.7 liter inline 6-cylinder turbodiesel engine with versions of 326 PS/1,700 Nm and 394 PS respectively. /1,900 Nm. Those who need more power can opt for the 2645 6×2 model, which has a larger 12.8 liter OM471 engine, with up to 449 PS of power and up to 2,200 Nm of torque.
Mercedes claims the new engines reduce fuel consumption by 7% compared to their own. Predecessor Euro 3. Both the ClassicSpace L-cab version and the higher StreamSpace version are available on the Actros, the latter being optional on the 2640 model and standard on the 2645. Gross combined weight (GCW) is rated at 44 tonnes for the model 2033 and 68 tons for everything else.
Intended to serve unpaved construction sites, the Arocs is only offered in 6×4 form with the ClassicSpace cab. The 3340 uses the 394 PS OM470 engine (here with an 80-ton GCW rating), but the 3348 is upgraded to the more powerful 476 PS/2,300 Nm of the OM471, bringing the GCW up to 120 tons. All engines are mated to a PowerShift 3 automated manual transmission, equipped with 12 speeds for the Actros and 16 speeds for the Arocs.
Actros and Arocs achieved Euro 5 certification through the use of AdBlue selective catalytic reduction (SCR), which injects aqueous urea into the exhaust gas to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. All engines are compatible with B30 biodiesel, which the government plans to introduce in 2030. Service intervals remain unchanged and extend to 55,000 km.
Apart from the new engine, the Actros is pretty much identical to the version it replaces, although eyebrow-style LED daytime running lights are now fitted as standard. You still get the three-piece front bumper design with steel corners, reducing the risk of damage and reducing repair costs.
For a firmer curve fit, the Arocs are differentiated by standard headlight guards and stronger side sills with rubber mounts. You also get a high-performance engine braking system that provides an additional 130 kW (176 PS) during deceleration compared to the standard setup.
Elsewhere, the suspension has been upgraded with heavier-duty rear parabolic springs (instead of the rear air suspension on the Actros) and retuned dampers and anti-roll bars, rear anti-roll bar for added rigidity and more stable handling even with one-sided loads. There is also a planetary rear axle that allows Arocs to have a higher GCW rating than Actros with hypoid axles.
Getting into the new Actros and Arocs is easier thanks to a 279mm lower floor, and once inside (seated on the standard air suspension seats) you’ll find an unchanged dashboard with a “yes” engine start button. “groove” as before. Mercedes passenger car and large electronic handbrake lever. In terms of safety, these two trucks can be equipped with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and driver attention monitoring.
Both Actros and Arocs come with Trac360 telematics technology as standard, which HSTD claims will enable users and businesses to increase their use of prime movers. The system tracks the truck’s location and routes taken to understand driver behavior and aid in recovery if the vehicle is stolen.
