LOS ANGELES — It seems Fiat took our advice and will bring Fiat 500 electric go to USA. It will also apply the 500e moniker like its predecessor, which was only for the US market.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a bit for the American 500e. fiat announced that it won’t go on sale until early 2024, with full information on the US version coming in next year LA Auto Show. While we’ve certainly seen a possible niche in the market for luxury convertibles, we’re a bit worried about whether that’s going to be around for another year and some change or not.
For a quick recap of why we think the 500e has been a hit in the US, it offers pretty solid value. In Europe, it costs less than the Mini Cooper WILL E and short range Leaf Nissan. At the same time, it provides than range over one car with an estimated 199 miles on a single charge. That will likely fall in the US test, but still beats the Leaf’s 150-mile estimate even on the EPA test cycle. Assuming the price stays below those two cars and the range doesn’t change significantly, it’s going to be a great entry-level EV with a ton of styling. In addition, Fiat currently has a single model on sale (model 500X), and authorized dealer may be begging for more options to offer.
Speaking of style, Fiat offers a trio of custom models designed by fashion brands Giorgio Armani, Kartell and Bvlgari. They are not new, have been shown for many years, but they are still very sharp. The Giorgio Armani has a laser-etched finish to mimic the weave of the fabric, the Kartell has cool, futuristic plastic panels and Bvlgari has a custom 500 badge brooch on the steering wheel, which is both stylish but also dangerous.
We also hope that with a launch date of 2024, electricity 500 Abarth that will soon be revealed will also be imported. We’d also love to see the convertible that underpins the Armani make our trip to the coast as well. We will definitely have more information in the future.
