While the Register of Nurses and Midwives (NMCs) shows the number of nurses, midwives and nursing associates has increased by 1.8% to just under 745,000, it also shows that the number of people leaving the profession is at the highest level since 2017 with 13,945 people quitting their jobs between April and September of this year.
