The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Sunday that the team had suspended protection for Ja Morant after a social media video emerged showing him wielding a handgun.
“We know about Ja Morant related social media videos,” group said in a tweet.
“He is suspended from all team activities pending a Federation review. We have no further comment at this time.”
A video circulating on social media shows Morant sitting in a car with several other people, and at one point the NBA star is seen holding what looks like a gun.
NBA spokesman Mike Bass said the league was aware of the social media post and was gathering more information.
This is not the first time this year that the 23-year-old has run into trouble with the league.
The NBA suspends Morant in March in eight unpaid matches after officials decided he had engaged in “detrimental conduct” when he live-streamed video of him “holding a gun while intoxicated” at a club near Denver.
“Ja’s conduct was irresponsible, reckless, and potentially very dangerous,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement at the time. “It also has serious consequences due to his huge following and influence, especially among young fans who admire him.”
