ST. LOUIS – Mega Millions raised the bet by $100 million.

The absence of a jackpot winner in Friday night’s latest lottery led the top prize to skyrocket to an estimated $820 million.

The numbers drawn at the end of Friday were: 29, 40, 47, 50, 57 and the Mega Ball 25 in gold. No ticket sold hit all of those numbers for the grand prize estimated at $720 million.

An estimated $820 million in the next draw Tuesday night will only be distributed to the winner who chooses an annuity paid over 29 years. Nearly all of the grand prize winners choose to receive cash payouts, estimated for Tuesday’s draw at $422 million.

The potential jackpot is the fifth-largest in the game’s history, Mega Millions said in a statement early Saturday.

Despite the game’s long odds of 1 in 302.6 million, players continue to buy tickets as the size of the grand prize grows.

The last time a Mega Millions player won the top prize was April 18.

Friday’s draw showed eight tickets matching five white balls with a $1 million prize. Mega Millions said two of each were sold in Florida, New Jersey and North Carolina, one in California and one in Michigan.

The Powerball jackpot has also reached near-record levels in front of a small neighborhood store in downtown Los Angeles sold the winning ticket for Wednesday’s drawing, worth an estimated $1.08 billion.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, DC and the US Virgin Islands.
