McLaren 750S revealed, adding power and lightness to the old 720S

The Successor McLaren 720S was revealed, and… it looks very similar 720S. That is McLaren 750S, and there’s a reason it looks the same, because a lot of them are. The company notes that the 750S uses 30% new components compared to 720S, which means it’s mostly the same. But that aside, it has notable upgrades from a more powerful engine to a lighter weight. The coupe is even joined by the convertible (750S Spider) right out of the gate.

In the middle of the 750S is a version of McLaren’s classic twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8. Compared to 720S, this one has more turbo pressure, more Fuel pump to maintain fuel injector and piston pressure from 765LT. All this means it makes 740 590 lb-ft of horsepower and torque, up 30 and 22, respectively. The seven-speed sequential automatic transmission continues, but the rear end has a shorter gear ratio.

The coupe weighs 3,062 pounds (DIN limited weight), 66 less than the 720, and the Spider weighs 3,170 pounds). Both benefit from lighter carbon fiber seats, lighter exhaust pipes, forged wheels, and an even lighter driver’s windshield and screen. All of this means that both the coupe and convertible will hit 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. The coupe will then complete the quarter mile in 10.1 seconds, while the Spider is just 0.2 seconds behind. Top speed for both is 206 mph.

In terms of handling, McLaren has re-tuned the entire suspension system from the hydraulic anti-roll system to the shock absorbers and springs. The road ahead is a bit wider and the steering rack has a quicker ratio. For convenience, the nose lift system now lifts the front end in just four seconds, the fastest of any McLaren. So you can wave that in Senna-possess your best friend’s face.

And on the subject of Senna, there is a new song brake the package uses a 15.4-inch carbon ceramic rotor and a monoblock caliper based on it supercar system. It combines with other performance options like titanium wheel bolts, Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires and even lighter (33%) carbon fiber seats.

And all this brings us to the design changes, perhaps the least interesting, as the 750S looks a lot like the 720S. But there are changes, such as a lower nose, smaller headlight air intakes, deeper spoiler, new side air intakes and a longer tail with a larger but lighter rear spoiler. The aforementioned lighter exhaust system also ends in the “inspired” center exit P1.” The interior isn’t significantly different, except for new seats and the instrument display. There’s a neat optional cargo rack for the coupe with windows to show off the V8 underneath. Apple CarPlay is included. standard and there’s now a custom powertrain function that allows the driver to set custom options for engine, chassis and transmission settings and access them at the touch of a button.

McLaren is currently taking orders for the 750S. The coupe starts at $331,740, including a $5,500 destination fee, and the $2,240 Americas Accessories Package, included on all US 750S models. That package includes one leather travel bag, luggage belt, one car covertire spacers (to prevent flat spots), one battery tender, titanium valve body cap, badge, license plate bracket, USB cable and microfiber cloth. The 750S Spider is a bit more expensive at $352,740, including the fees mentioned earlier.
