Mazda is “not sure” that the CX-5 will have a new successor model
The future of the Mazda CX-5 is uncertain despite its sales success, Automotive expertsince the Japanese manufacturer has begun production of two more mid-size SUVs, CX-50 and CX-60.
“I’m not sure if we’re going to introduce a [new] CX-5 or not,” current CX-5 program manager Mitsuru Wakiie told the Australian publication. CX-5 received a renewed in September 2021this suggests that the C-segment SUV is still several years away from its current lifecycle.
The CX-5 is the brand’s best-selling model in 2022, with 365,135 SUVs delivered out of 1,116,107 units sold globally last year. In other words, the CX-5 accounts for nearly a third of the Japanese brand’s total vehicle sales in 2022.
Based on Automotive expertThe CX-5 was also Mazda’s best-selling model in Australia last year with 27,062 units sold, second behind the Toyota RAV4 which sold 34,845 units in Australia last year.
The US-specific CX-50 is manufactured at the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) plant in Huntsville, Alabama and is the first Mazda vehicle to be manufactured at the facility, while the CX-60 is built in Japan, Europe. -offered on the market is the brand’s first plug-in hybrid that produces a combined output of 327 PS and 500 Nm.
The CX-60 uses a vertically oriented drivetrain to favor the rear-wheel drive layout. In contrast, the CX-50 has a horizontal engine layout shared with the CX-30 and is therefore closer to the CX-5’s driveline.
