Testing VW ID.Buzz, Fiat EVs, Stellantis’ EV Platform for Europe: Car News Today
VW plans to test ID.Buzz trucks near Tesla headquarters. Fiat shows off two new electric car models that are unlikely for the US and its parent company showcases the mainstream electric vehicle platform for Europe. This and more, at Green Car Reports.
Volkswagen is moving its autonomous vehicle program after the now defunct Argo.AI and it is using ID.Buzz electric van to test US self-driving technology—originally on the streets of Austin. But it should be noted that VW is using a shorter wheelbase version that will not be sold to Americans.
Fiat on Wednesday showed its smallness Topolino electric mini caras well as the 600e compact crossover that closely matches the 500X crossover already offered in the United States. According to Fiat, there are no US plans for either model, but the 500e EV remains on schedule as early as 2024.
And Fiat’s parent company, Stellantis, detailed one of the four platforms that will support up to 2 million electric vehicles annually across its many brands. The STLA Medium Platform will offer fast charging and a range of more than 300 miles in some forms. It is expected to form the backbone of several important mainstream electric vehicles for Europe — such as Peugeot, Citroën and perhaps even Fiat — and will form the basis of mostly compact US-standard models.
