The Mazda CX-30 will follow the 3 sedan and hatchback in getting upgraded technology.
Mazda, in Japan and the USA, has revealed updates for the small crossover for 2024, which CarExpert understands will also make their way to models for our market.
CarExpert understands the updated CX-30 will arrive before the end of 2023.
Like the Mazda 3, the CX-30 gains a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with touch functionality – albeit only while using Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The larger screen also features wireless smartphone mirroring capability, while a wireless phone charger and a pair of USB-C outlets have also been added.
Mazda in Japan and the US will continue to offer the smaller 8.8-inch screen, which lacks touch functionality, on low-spec models. Mazda in Australia does the same with low-spec 3 models here.
The recently updated Mazda 3 range gained an updated base 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with cylinder deactivation and a five per cent improvement in fuel economy, but no mechanical tweaks have been detailed for either Japanese- or Mexican-built CX-30s.
It’s unclear what other changes will be made to the Australian CX-30 lineup, though given the demise of manual versions of the 3 and CX-5, the future of the three-pedal option for the base G20 Pure is far from assured.
However, the brand has retained lower-volume Mazda 2 variants like the base manual, and says it isn’t rationalising all of its model lineups.
The turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine offered in Mexican-built, left-hand drive CX-30s still has yet to be introduced in Japanese-built, right-hand drive models.
Though it lacks this performance option, the CX-30 is still Mazda’s third best-selling model in Australia (behind the CX-3 and CX-5) and the second best-selling vehicle in its segment (behind the MG ZS family).
