Maximus Mischief Colt on Top at MTA Yearling Sale


The Minnesota Thoroughbred Association Yearling Sale Aug. 27 concluded Aug. 27 with a $49,000 colt by Maximus Mischief   leading the way, selling to John Mentz. Richard Bremer and Cheryl Sprick bred and consigned him as Hip 31. The colt out of Smarty Prance is half sibling to stakes-placed Jose Patio , by Cinco Charlie  . The Minnesota-bred comes from the family of Minnesota juvenile champion Ice Rocket  and grade 1 winners Circle of Life and Circular Quay .

Mentz made two purchases Sunday for gross receipts of $57,500, an average of $28,750, to be the sale’s leading buyer. Dove Hill Farm sold five of its six-horse draft for a gross of $71,000, an average of $14,200, to be the leading consignor.

The second highest-priced offering, a $40,000 gelding by Atta Boy Roy , sold to Kerri Raven and Mary J. Tobin from the Von Seggern Thoroughbreds draft, which also bred the chestnut. Named Sweet On Roger, the Minnesota-bred is out of Dazzlingsweetheart and half sibling to stakes winner Cupids Crush , by Cupid  .

The single session sale ended with 24 horses sold of the 31 through the ring for gross receipts of $301,000, at an average price of $12,542 and a median of $5,500. The seven yearlings who failed to sell represent an RNA rate of 22.6%.
