Masters 2022: Tiger Woods trains at Augusta National to try and compete next week

The world has been on alert for the past few days as we wait for Tiger Woods to announce whether he will compete at the 2022 Masters at Augusta National. After rumors swirled last week about Woods being seen practicing at his home during the Medals course in South Florida, he has now been discovered in Augusta, Georgiaafter taking a flight to the place of masters.

Woods is said to be in town with his son, Charlie and friend Justin Thomas, according to Sports Illustrated. He will play Augusta National on Tuesday in an attempt to get some prep work done ahead of the tournament’s 86th edition. This after it was reported Woods’ caddy, Joe LaCava, joined him in Florida for the aforementioned rounds at Medalist.

This doesn’t mean, of course, that the five-time Masters champion has officially decided to compete in the tournament, but there’s certainly been a lot of smoke without the flames, especially from someone who already has five jerseys. put on that green in 23 appearances. .

Woods hasn’t played in an official tournament since the Masters 2020, held in November of that year, before another back surgery for him in early 2021 and his horrific car accident in end of February 2021. He recently said that his accident almost resulted in the loss of his right leg.

Tiger has been adamant that he is patient with his return to golf. Despite competing at the PNC Championship with Charlie in December 2021, he declined to commit to any specific timeline for his return to the PGA Tour. Instead, he has insisted that any schedule he plays in the future will be limited.

When asked in February if he would attend the Masters by Jim Nantz on CBS, Woods only confirmed that he would be there on Tuesday for the Champions Dinner. And while it now looks like he could be there for more than that, this potential re-release is a break from what was expected from Woods.

The 15-time major champion insists he only plays golf tournaments to win, but he also admits that it took him months to build to be ready to win the 2019 Masters. He has to know. that he has no realistic chance of winning this year’s Masters, which would imply that he is there for the festival and not to wear the green jacket.

Of course, it’s worth celebrating because a tournament featuring Tiger Woods is always better than one he’s absent from, but it’s definitely different from what we’ve come to expect from Woods.

In 23 appearances at the Masters, Tiger has 5 wins and 14 finishes in the top 10.
