Maserati is slowly renewing its relationship with its illustrious racing heritage. After coming back supercar segment with MC20sooner or later hit the track, it released a competition-inspired version of Ghiblithe Quattroporteand Levante called MC Edition.
Fittingly, every MC Edition model begins life with a V8 under the hood. Buyers can choose two color called Giallo Corse and Blu Vittoria respectively, names which mean Racing Yellow and Victory Blue in Italian. Maserati explains that yellow and blue are the colors of Modena, its home city. MC Edition cars also receive specific exterior emblems, Piano black trim, and 21- or 22-inch gloss black wheels depending on the model; Levante rides on 22 units while sedans ship with 21 units. Blue brake The caliper adds a finishing touch to the look.
Inside, every MC Edition gets a sunroof, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, and a very racing-like Driver Assistance package. The interior is as striking as the exterior: Maserati adds black leather seats with denim stitching, yellow and blue stitching, plus some blue carbon fiber accents on the dashboard, center console and door panels. “MC Edition” is embroidered on the headrest.
There’s nothing to suggest that racing inspiration permeates the powertrain; did not expect to pop the hood and be greeted by the Weber carburetor with a trumpet. Maserati hasn’t released specifications yet, but the only V8 engine available in the Ghibli is the 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine fitted to the model. Trofeo model and tuned to develop 580 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. Levante and Quattroporte are also supplied with this motor. It develops 590 hp in American Levantealthough European models have stabilized for Ghibli output.
Maserati will start delivering MC Edition vehicles to customers in Europe, Asia and in China in February 2022. Pricing information is yet to be announced. And, there’s still no word on whether the special edition models will be sold in the United States.
