Here’s our look back at the Reversal Week—right here at the Green Car Report—for the week ending June 30, 2023.
Much of the news focused on electric cars this week involves Tesla’s continued move to the NACS EV charging standard, following Ford, GM, Rivian and a long list of charging-related companies. Future Volvo EVs will have a NACS . connector for North America, the Swedish automaker announced Tuesday, while Volvo EVs will have access to the Tesla Supercharger network in 2024 via the Volvo Cars app and CCS adapter. Polestar confirmed over the weekend that it also plans to adopt Tesla NACS . charging port in its future EVs, starting in 2025. It will also allow access to the Tesla Supercharger fast charger, with a CCS adapter, starting in mid-2024.

Electrification of America by VW . Corporation will add Tesla connector to its charging network in the United States and Canada, it announced Thursday, amid reports that VW itself is considering switching to it. Although EA has yet to clarify whether they plan to support NACS in a way that will charge the top 800V EV at top speed.
Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, Dodge, Ram and others, makes the same commitment toll aggregator and route planner for all its brands, as part of a new energy and charging business unit. But that doesn’t mean the company is building its own charging infrastructure or logging into Tesla’s NACS connector.
Should Tesla NACS connector becomes a fitting standard? That is what SAE International, one of the standards organizations for the automotive industry, has stated that it wants to do. That would essentially allow other companies to manufacture connectors and ports and ensure interoperability.
Chevrolet Silverado EV 2024 with GM Ultium Home energy system
In EV product news, GM has been effective base price increase of Chevy Silverado EV WT—its base model drives its electric pickup fleet—long before it was actually delivered. While prices could start around $60,000 versus around $40,000, it’s still unclear if the $40,000 model with the lower range and smaller battery will make an appearance.
GM has also detailed the required hardware use the upcoming electric car for home electricity backup. The Ultium Home V2H package and Support Kit will add an inverter and “dark start” battery to assist with power outages and disasters, as well as integrate solar power. It’s been revealed that the Chevy Silverado EV will be one of the compatible vehicles, although it hasn’t detailed what specs will allow it or what other GM models will allow two-way charging in the first place.

The Lotus Eletre SUV coming to Europe and the UK soon, and this full-size electric SUV will challenge the Tesla Model X Plaid with a number of new performance benchmarks, including a 0-60 mph time of under three seconds, a four-wheel drive and 20-minute range – Quickly charges its large 112 kWh battery pack. It will arrive in the United States sometime later this year.
The Nissan Leaf 2024 starts under $30,000and it’s back for another model year virtually unchanged. It continues with the CHAdeMO DC fast charging interface that allows for two-way charging plus more locations than the Tesla NACS interface.

Electric pickup truck maker Endurance in Ohio, Lordstown Motors is about to go bankrupt and is for sale. The company has also confirmed that it is suing Taiwan’s Foxconn, which now takes control of the former GM plant but, according to Lordstown, it has not followed through.

Aston Martin and the Lucid Corporation of California on Monday announced a long-term strategic partnership in which Lucid will supply the UK performance car market with powertrain technology for upcoming vehicles. With the deal effectively giving Lucid a 3.7% stake in Aston Martin, it gives Aston access to powertrain units, battery technology, Wunderbox charging hardware and Lucid support.
Rolls-Royce considers the switch to electric propulsion long-term, even though it has the potential to switch hydrogen fuel cell not battery future, the CEO recently suggested.

Recently dealer mark of popular high mpg plug-in hybrid and plug-in hybrid models—including the Honda CR-V Hybrid and Toyota Prius Prime—can effectively eliminate the cost of ownership advantages of technology. With the electric vehicle market stabilizing, will the supply and demand for hybrids soon balance?
A federal study this week evaluates US charging demand in 2030 if we get the predicted 30 million to 42 million electric vehicles on US roads by that time and that could be the basis for many future state and federal policies. It predicted a need for 182,000 publicly accessible DC charging ports at the time, but perhaps more surprising was the need for a million public Level 2 charging points — to help meet the needs of those who may not have a dedicated charger at home.

And the latest version of an annual review of the auto industry, from Bank of America, calls Ford and GM’s electric vehicle strategies “relatively solid,” while Tesla will remain the best-selling electric car company until at least 2026. But with so many utility vehicles on the market and the potential for products to be canceled for other reasons—such as regulation and politics—it calls the next few years “an uncertain and volatile number of years.” The best product strategy ever.”
